Founded by alumni of the Northeastern University Huskiers and Outing Club, NEOCA’s mission is to promote, sustain, and support college outing clubs through the creation, preservation, and maintenance of outing club lodges.
Oftentimes, university outing clubs have lodges in local mountains that contain a shared and living history of the organization and university they represent. Students there not only have the opportunity to be exposed to outdoor activities that they otherwise would never have had access to, but they are also taught valuable leadership skills through the facilitation of trips that can be applied in all aspects of life. This enables students to connect with the outdoors and take a break from their studies, while also still learning valuable developmental skills. However, due to a lack of funding, natural causes, or other circumstances, outing club lodges often fall into disrepair, as students are expected to manage and care for the property in addition to their studies. These same students are then expected to navigate and manage the logistically complex and bureaucratic process of renovating a lodge.
NEOCA’s goal is to streamline this process and allow outing clubs to focus on what’s most important: bringing students to the outdoors and helping them try new things.
